Desde
California, EUA, Rivel presenta su primer EP en
filtro: What’s de dub of it all, con cinco
tracks que parecen salir de un CPU trabajando
bajo la influencia del THC. Beats idm envueltos
en acordes de reggae y gruesos bajos, así
como atmósferas más sutiles; en
el ep están presentes todo el tiempo las
influencias de la música de Jamaica. Si
bien esto no resulta extraño en la música
electrónica inteligente de hoy en día,
el ánimo experimental de Rivel logra convertir
a sus raíces en estructuras caprichosas
y poco comunes que lo alejan del grueso del dub
electrónico.
Como si este rompecabezas rítmico se hubiese
terminado de ensamblar en las calles, la música
de Rivel mantiene un espíritu urbano-fronterizo
que termina de darle un toque muy personal que
presta atención al soundtrack de algún
barrio perdido en la frontera.
El EP incluye 3 reinterpretaciones sonoras de
la música de Rivel a cargo de Bifidus,
Plug y Subnor; mientras que el primero nos ofrece
un remix de sonoridades discretas y profundas
que trasladan Can’t keep on a terrenos de
ensoñaciones diáfanas Plug, con
la misma pieza, sigue los trazos del dancehall
para crear un paisaje subacuático de delays
y texturas degradadas. Finalmente Subnor confronta
sus nociones del IDM con las bases rítmicas
de Rivel convirtiéndolas en una especie
de jungla de naturaleza más artificial
y frenética.

from California, USA, Rivel delivers his first
release on Filtro: What’s de dub of it all,
five tracks that seem to come from a THC-exposed
CPU. Heavy, smoked IDM beats wrapped with post-reggae
chords and strong basses generating what someone
may call electroreggae; this, along with more
gentle soundscapes, a lot of influences from the
Jamaican music and an experimental twist make
Rivel’s music depart from most of the known
electronic dub.
As if this rhythmical puzzle had finished its
assembly on the streets, the music of Rivel maintains
an urban spirit that gives it a very personal
flavor, one that pays attention to the street
soundtrack of some lost district along the border.
The EP includes 3 remixes of Rivel’s music
produced by Bifidus, Plug and Subnor; whereas
Bifidus gives us a translation of Can't keep that
turns the piece into a discreet and deep mood
that takes dub into realms of diaphanous daydreams,
Plug, with the same piece, follows the outlines
of dancehall to create a sub-acuatic landscape
of delays and degraded textures. Finally Subnor
confronts his slight knowledge of the IDM with
the rythmical foundations of Rivel, turning them
into some kind of artificial, frenetic jungle.
